This sunset sky is bruised with purple cloud.
Like shades of kings in the Tyrian purple
Of a thousand ghostly molluscs.
Purple for pride, purple for mourning,
(Which sometimes go together).
I cannot yet see
The Purple Forbidden Enclosure where the North Star lives.
I would fill my arms with purple flowers,
Lavender and mallow, thistle and heliotrope,
And a thoughtful pansy.
I watch the sunset sky, remembering
How much it bruised my heart that, at the end,
My mother’s arms blossomed to purple at a touch.
Notes: The prompt was to ‘write a poem that repeats or focuses on a single color.’ I love purple but I sometimes have an ambiguous relationship with it.
Ah! Lovely. 🙂
I love the double work “thoughtful pansy” is doing (pensée=thought in French just in case), and the silent bruising of your mother’s arms.
Thank you – yes, the play on pansy/pensée was intentional 🙂
Nicely done for the whole poem!
I love purple, too! I love how you included the beautiful purple flowers in your poem.

Congratulations on being featured. I love the pretty purple flowers in your poem and the ending.
Very nice the way the sunset frames the poem, going from a “bruised” sunset to “bruised” heart making way for the powerful last lines. Congrats on the feature. Well-deserved.
Such a powerful ending. Congrats on the feature.
What A beautiful 💜 piece. That closing really stood out for me.
Congrats on being featured. I also love the bonus rainbow poem.

Beautiful Poem, I can’t seem to get enough of it. I loved purple a lot when I was much younger.
Great choice (I picked purple too!) Loved your imagery! A well deserved feature poem. Congrats!
