2018 day 13(b) – Bits and bobs

Like a rain sodden sparrow
He soaks up each word.
They weigh down his wings,

She’s had more men
Than she’s had cold suppers –
Each tasteless and unsatisfying.

The aardvark didn’t care,
Kept his nose out of the matter,
Which saved his bacon.

Notes: Further variations on the prompt to “write a poem in which the words or meaning of a familiar phrase get up-ended”, using ‘Like water off a duck’s back’, ‘More x than she’s had hot dinners’ and ‘Curiosity killed the cat’.
