2017 Day 11 – Snatch and Grab

Reaching out from greed, not need,
These hands grab anything that’s free,
Snatch bargains that they’ll never use,
Accumulate for keeping’s sake
Like dragon hoards kept in the dark,
Their glitter hidden, beauty gone.

Hands grabbing, grabbing all the time.

The shelves are stacked, the cupboards filled,
Building a wall against emotion,
Building a dam, a barricade,
But never building bridges, roads.
The wall, though high, is not enough.
It needs more stuff, no matter what.
Take more, take all, and watch it rot.
Possession is the only perfect goal.

Hands grabbing, grabbing all the time.

Snatching at stuff’s a feeble substitute
For hands stretched out to other hands.
These stacks of things will bring no warmth
(Unless you set the lot on fire),
But love takes time, and work, and care.
Building up dragon hoards is easier.

Hands grabbing, grabbing all the time.

Notes: Today’s prompt was to write a Bop poem.
