2017 Day 5 – Pigeon-toed

These hard-as-nails
City centre pigeons,
Missing toes,
Missing whole feet,
Keep going somehow,
Flap valiantly
Towards tourist bread,
Discarded burgers.
Their luckier pals
(Luckier, or better in a fight)
Have an eye for the ladies,
Strut, rainbowed ruffs glinting,
Tails spread like Poundstretcher peacocks,
Cooing persuasion.
It’s a crude courtship
But it seems to work –
Town’s full of pigeons.

Notes: today’s prompt was to write a poem about “a slice of the natural world that you have personally experienced and optimally, one that you have experienced often.”
