It rained today (Day 9)

It rained today.
They said ‘Remember
Days that were brighter.’
I prefer
To take the weather as it comes.
It rained today,
The sky as grey
As if it had never seen sunshine.
Today, umbrellas
Were brandished like lethal weapons,
Loose flagstones, treacherous,
Concealed watery traps.
It rained today.
Earth drank thirstily,
Plants greened and grew.
The city’s dust
Washed down drains.
It rained today –
And tomorrow?
I’ll take the weather as it comes.
